7x7 Wild Talks (Sold Out)

Seven expert speakers will each present a 7-minute talk on subjects that dip into science, the arts and culture.

Te Rūnaka o Ōtākou will officially open the Wild Dunedin Festival in the Hutton Theatre at 6pm, followed by 7x7 Wild Talks.

Seven expert speakers will each present a 7-minute talk with a connection to huarere/weather or climate. Subjects dip into science, arts and culture.

Damian Newall from The Breeze will be the host and with help from the audience will choose the winning speaker.

The 7 speakers are:

#1 Assoc Prof Nic Rawlence – Director - Otago Palaeogenetics Lab, Zoology Otago Uni – discussing New Zealand’s fossil record including Foulden Maar and St Bathans in terms of weather, climate change and the impact on animals

#2 Dr Jenny Jandt – Zoology Dept of Otago University - how native bees and pollinators are coping with climate change

#3 Dr Sean Connelly - Geography Dept Otago Uni and Chair of Our Food Network – working together to improve food resilience in a changing climate

#4 Prof David Orlovich, Head of Botany, Otago University  – how fungi have adapted to climate: past, present and future.

#5 Pam McKinlay – Dunedin School of Art – Art+Science Project  banners project with children about air quality and climate change

#6 Jonathan Rowe -  South Dunedin Future Programme Manager – Rethinking and reshaping South Dunedin in a changing climate.

#7 Dr Pascale Lubbe – Post-doctoral Fellow, Genetics, Otago University – a native bird’s view on climate change   

We are serious about the time allowed, so it's a race for those competing to get their story across in the most effective way in just seven minutes.
