Hereweka Hike

Walkers register on the day from 10.00am at Portobello Domain on Allan’s Beach Road, Portobello.

Join the Hereweka Harbour Cone Trust for the first public walk along the new Portobello – Hereweka marked loop track. Thanks to the generosity of our neighbours, this new route allows walkers to walk from Portobello to Harbour Cone.

This route is a new marked circuit that will become a permanent addition to the Peninsula’s track network.

The 5.5 kilometre walk:

  • takes walkers over the historic “Leith Walk” on Hereweka Street through the covenanted rimu forest remnant on the Trust’s boundary 

  • traverses the old Lesley Family sled track

  • has the option of a walk to the summit of Hereweka/Harbour Cone

  • has the option of a traverse of the Cone then back along the magnificient rimu walk and back to Portobello.

Please Note:

  • walkers should register on the day from 10.00am at Portobello Domain on Allan’s Beach Road, Portobello

  • 10.30am start on Sunday 28th of April

  • due to being on an operational farm there are no dogs allowed

  • bring appropriate footwear, clothing and water

  • this walk is designed for moderately fit people

  • the walk should take between 2-3.5 hours.
