  • Port Chalmers Library Corner Beach and Gray Streets, Port Chalmers Dunedin, Otago, 9016 New Zealand (map)

Book a Workshop Session with natural fibre artist Lesa Hepburn:

  • 11.30am-1pm

  • 1.30pm-3pm

Weaving a small sea being, a mermaid from a ti kōuka leaf is a reminder of our connection to the environment and the weather.

Ti kōuka leaves are known for their toughness (not good for mowers) and water resistance making them valuable for certain woven items. .

The ti kōuka leaves have a form reminiscent of a sea creature’s tail and streamlined body.

Mermaids and other semi-human beings of the sea are known across a wide range of cultures and there are tales of the bad weather and other misfortunes that come from disrespecting these beings.

This workshop enables participants to make a mermaid woven from a ti kōuka leaf.

Designed for Adults and children (10+ years)

Cost: $20/person (10 places/workshop)
