Perennial Vegetables & Fruit Garden Tour (Sold Out)

  • Sue Novell, Tainui Dunedin, Otago, 9013 New Zealand (map)

Gardener Sue Novell redefines vegetable gardening with edible perennials and annual self-seeding plants.

Sue Novell’s Tainui garden has changed from a formal garden to one that grows year-round food for insects, birds and her household.

On the tour she will show you and talk about using mostly edible perennial and self-seeding plants.

Besides better known perennial leeks and brassicas, and lesser known skirret and yakon etc, it often came down to redefining what a vegetable is, as some are only known as weeds (dandelion, chickweed, miners lettuce etc).

She will show how many fruit trees and berry bushes you can grow in an urban garden in Dunedin.

Sue is also presenting a free talk on Tuesday 23 April at the City Library from 6pm-8pm with Jason Ross and Rory Harding focusing on ways to garden in a changing climate.

Cost: $15pp (tour limited to 10 places)

Location: Address in Tainui available upon booking.

Hosted by Sue Novell: Sue has researched, showcased and distributed local edible perennial plants and annual ones that self-seed easily. She volunteers at the Heart and Soil Community Garden at Musselburgh School and is generally interested in helping to build community food resilience.
