Dunedin Nightlife - Orokonui Ecosanctuary After Dark

Spring is the time that Orokonui Ecosanctuary restarts Dusk Tours. Guide Taylor Davies-Colley explains: "So much of the wildlife’s behaviour is dictated by the time of day, and everything changes in te pō (night) – the wildlife, the scenery, the vibe."

As  a single group of only 10 people, participants  experience Orokonui outside public hours, and instead find themselves amongst the bustling nocturnal life of the forest - a world of unique invertebrates, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds who are at their most active at night!

About 1.5 km of walking is involved, plus lots of opportunities to sit still and listen for the sounds of the forest at night.

Limited places are available on these special seasonal tours, so get in early!

Note: Dusk tours involve a decent amount of walking over some uneven terrain in parts, in the dark. Tours last about 2hours, and cover 2km of track. There is an elevation change of ~100m over the length of the tour. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required for this activity. Torches and warm clothing (including several layers, hats, gloves and jackets) are a must as we will be moving slowly and staying warm is vital for your enjoyment of the tour.
